Selecting the Perfect Tree from Houston Tree Farms

We hired Charlie Nansteel to chip a large brush pile and grind 3 stumps on our property . We received a proposal totaling $550 and an estimated 2-3 week lead time do peach trees bloom or leaf first . 6 weeks later, our brush pile was gone and our damage to our yard is truly shocking given the scope of the project (copy of proposal & unedited photos of the damage attached; additional details below.) Needless to say, we found Nansteel to be unprofessional, incompetent, and downright dangerous when a winch rope snapped in an attempt to remove a stuck truck, yet was attempted a second time . Would definitely not recommend.---------------After 5 weeks with little communication and one no-show, a crew arrived . A truck hauling a chipper was driven into our lot and got stuck, a winch was used to try to pull the truck out which snapped at least twice that I saw, leaving a crew member flinching away both times, and three hours had gone by with absolutely no progress aside from damage to my lawn . Once the truck was relocated, the crew utilized a bobcat to scrape the brush towards the chipper (the owner later admitted he was expecting his crew to pull the brush by hand to the street and that he was angry they brought equipment onto the lawn given such soggy conditions.) After nearly 7 hours, I saw how much damage was done and went out to speak to a crew member . I was told that Id need to talk to the main guy and he pointed to someone on site . I went inside waiting for them to finish cleaning up and suddenly noticed that they had all left without even speaking to me . I documented the damage (which included pieces of broken rope left on the ground, holes 6+ inches deep, extensive tire ruts including one on a neighbors lawn, a gatorade bottle, and a damaged tree.) I emailed Charlie and he did call me, ultimately saying he would send a crew to repair the damage . I sent an email to make sure I didnt misunderstand what he said he would fix and he never responded, but did send a crew so I assumed we were on the same page . They repaired most of the tire ruts and the holes, but refused to repair the neighbors lawn (first citing that several cars did the damage driving around their trucks, later citing that a UPS truck was responsible) . He also refused to repair the areas under the brush pile (citing I didnt make the weather . God did that.)We proposed several options to further rectify the mess, to which Charlie flat refused at one point saying something very similar to Ive taken things to the Supreme Court before . I dont care if I spend $3000 to prove Im right . We did the job and you owe us the $550 . If its not paid, youll hear from my lawyer . While Im far from a legal expert, I believe a matter such as this would be handled in small claims court or by a collection agency moreso than the supreme court and in my opinion this was used, at best, in an unprofessional manner and at worst, as an intimidation tactic. We hired a company to complete a fairly small job that we were actually planning to do ourselves . Needless to say, we wish we did.(For those who care, I did inform Charlie about the winch snapping twice and he genuinely did seem upset and appreciative of me telling him . Regardless of my dissatisfaction, I truly do hope he at least took steps to minimize the needlessly dangerous working conditions for his employees.)

I had little tree last winter did good job trimming two trees but took wood from one tree when I told all of them I wanted all of wood also they have done bad damage to lawn and my neighbor s driveway have been trying to get tree people to take care of driveway call them went to house twice when I call they dont call back so giving little tree one star cant count on them sorry

We had a huge dead oak tree, a medium pine and 4 medium oak trees to be removed sheepshead mushroom pictures . Also had two large oak trees trimmed along with a small red maple and magnolia trees trimmed . The work crew communicated well with me, did excellent trimming and removed the dead oak, without a bucket truck, which was fun to watch . They were careful with my sprinkler system and with our lawn and cleaned up very well after the work . We were very pleased with the job . Removing the trees opened up spaces for much more sunshine which greatly improved our lawn . Since this North Hills cur down trees for our neighbor and they were very careful not to damage our lawn or sprinkler system . Very professional ! I have recommended them to others also.

When it comes to selecting the perfect tree for your landscape, there are several factors to consider. Choosing the right tree can enhance the overall look and feel of your outdoor space, while also providing shade, privacy, and other benefits. Whether you're looking for a tree that will thrive in the Houston climate or one that will complement the style of your home, these tips will help you make an informed decision.

1. Consider the Purpose

Before selecting a tree, think about why you want to add it to your landscape. Are you looking for shade, privacy, or aesthetic appeal? Different trees serve different purposes, so it's important to identify your specific needs and goals. For example, if you want shade, you might consider a large deciduous tree with a broad canopy. On the other hand, if you're looking for privacy, an evergreen tree with dense foliage might be the better choice.

2. Assess the Site

Take a close look at the site where you plan to plant the tree. Consider factors such as soil type, drainage, sunlight exposure, and available space. Some trees require specific soil conditions or prefer certain levels of sunlight. It's also important to consider the mature size of the tree and ensure that it will fit comfortably within the available space. Assessing the site will help you choose a tree that will thrive in its environment and avoid potential issues in the future.

3. Research Tree Varieties

Do some research on tree varieties that are well-suited for the Houston climate and your specific site conditions. Consider factors such as the tree's growth rate, tolerance to heat and drought, disease resistance, and maintenance requirements. Consulting with a knowledgeable tree professional or visiting a local tree farm can also provide valuable insights and recommendations.

4. Consider Long-Term Care

Before making a final decision, consider the long-term care requirements of the tree you're considering. Some trees require regular pruning, fertilizing, or pest control treatments. It's important to understand the ongoing maintenance needs of the tree and ensure that you're willing and able to provide the necessary care. Additionally, consider the potential impact on your landscape and surrounding plants as the tree grows and matures.

By following these tips, you'll be well-equipped to choose the right tree for your landscape. Remember to consider the purpose, assess the site, research tree varieties, and consider long-term care requirements. With careful consideration, you can find the perfect tree that will enhance the beauty and functionality of your outdoor space for years to come.

When choosing a tree from Houston Tree Farms, there are several important factors to consider in order to make an informed decision. These factors will help ensure that the tree not only thrives in its new environment but also meets your specific needs and preferences.

1. Climate Compatibility

One of the key factors to consider is the climate compatibility of the tree. Houston has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, so it is crucial to select a tree that can withstand these conditions. Look for trees that are known to thrive in the Houston area and are tolerant of heat, humidity, and occasional cold snaps.

2. Size and Growth Rate

The size and growth rate of the tree are important considerations, especially if you have limited space or specific aesthetic preferences. Consider the ultimate height and spread of the tree to ensure it fits well in your landscape. Additionally, think about the growth rate of the tree as it can determine how quickly it reaches its mature size.

3. Maintenance Requirements

Before making a selection, it is essential to understand the maintenance requirements of the tree. Some trees may require regular pruning, while others may have specific soil or watering needs. Consider your ability and willingness to provide the necessary care for the tree to ensure its long-term health and vitality.

4. Purpose and Function

Think about the purpose and function of the tree in your landscape. Are you looking for shade, privacy, or ornamental value? Different trees offer different benefits, so it is crucial to choose one that aligns with your specific goals. Additionally, consider factors such as leaf color, flowering patterns, and fall foliage to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your landscape.

5. Availability and Cost

Lastly, consider the availability and cost of the tree. Some tree species may be more readily available at Houston Tree Farms, while others may have limited availability. Additionally, factor in the cost of the tree, including any associated delivery or planting fees, to ensure it fits within your budget.

By considering these factors when selecting a tree from Houston Tree Farms, you can make a well-informed decision that will lead to a beautiful and thriving addition to your landscape.
